Mickey and Eddie Paper Blood Brothers, a story of twins separated at birth, growing up in completely different environments, but with the same genetic composition, never knowing that they shared one name, till the day they died, when a mother cried, my own dear sons lie slain, is a compelling story of which we will discuss in detail, of who is to blame for their tragic deaths. There are many character in Blood Brothers, which can be blamed for the tragic deaths; Mrs. Lyons, the rich, devious woman, Mrs. Johnstone, the under-privileged mother of eight, Sammy, Mickeys brother and his influence, and even superstition and fate. First of all, we will discuss the case of Mrs. Lyons, a vindictive, manipulative woman who has a caring side to her, for the desperation of the love for a child. Indeed she did start all of this deception, by offering to take one of Mrs. Johnstones babys and lying to Mrs. Johnstone that she could see her child everyday. She also lied to her husband that the child was theirs and not an adopted baby (as Mr. Lyons hated the fact of adopting children). To add to the blame of Mrs. Lyons, she had carried out many other scheming concepts, such as when she took advantage of Mrs. Johnstones belief in superstition, they say that if either twin learns that he once was a pair, they shall both immediately die. Was this superstition true, so true that Mrs. Johnstone believed it and that they both did really die when they found out who they were? She also uses bribery by offering money to Mrs. Johnstone, twice in the play: first to compensate for Mrs. Johnstones redundancy with fifty pounds, then later on to get Mrs. Johnstone to move away, with thousands. We notice here that when Mrs. Lyons becomes desperate, she is willing to give up thousands, just so her son would never find out who his real mother is. The last point affecting Mrs. Lyons case is that which we could consider as the most important, the fact that later on in the play, she points out to Mickey that her son, Edward, and Mickeys wife Linda were holding hands together. Did she do this to make Mickey jealous, jealous enough to kill Edward, or did she do this to make Mickey feel insecure but without realizing the consequences that her son could face because of what she had shown Mickey? Another main character we could place the blame on is Mrs. Johnstone. She may not be deceitful or vindictive like Mrs. Lyons, but we can prove that she is an easy target for blame as she is often taken advantage of, and is a very insecure character. Firstly, she with some minor doubts, agreed to Mrs. Lyons plan so quickly, that it leaves us to ponder that she had not considered all of the possibilities of the consequences that both her sons could face; a life without knowing they were twins, Give one to you?. Are y are y that desperate to have a baby? . By accepting Mrs. Lyons plan, as the key ingredient to implement her plan, Mrs. Johnstone could be indeed the one to blame for the twins deaths, as she gave one of her own babys away. The next point we could discuss is the fact that Mrs. Johnstone lies to her other children, to cover-up what she did, which instantly shows that she cannot even tell her own children the truth about their brother, Wheres the other twinny, mam? Hes gone up to heaven, love. By not telling her own children the truth about their brother, Mrs. Johnstone could have felt that no-one would ever find out the truth, and the matter will be left alone, because if she did tell her children the truth, they might have wanted their brother back, the twins would know that they were twins, and they both may have not died. Was Mrs. Johnstones lies a reason for her being a capable suspect to blame, or did she just want to avoid the grief her other children would face, if they found out that they had another brother who was taken away? She also shows us later on in the play, that she still isnt willing to let go of Edward, the twin who was given away, when she gives the locket to Edward, but tells him to keep it a secret, therefore showing that she is insecure about the truth, Yeh, but keep it a secret, eh Eddie? Could this have been the cause of the twins death that Mrs. Johnstone could not let go of her son, that she gave him a reminder of her? Lastly, we shall consider the most important point on Mrs. Johnstone, the fact that in all the chaos and rage between Mickey and Eddie, she screamed to them Mickey. Dont shoot Eddie. Hes your brother. You had a twin brother. Mrs. Johnstone revealed the truth to her twins, not knowing the consequences of her words, and this may have been a possible reason for the twins deaths, as this could have led Mickey to shoot his brother, as he was jealous; Why didnt you give me away!

Italian Heritage Month Celebrations October is Italian Heritage Month, formerly known as National Italian-American Heritage Month. Coinciding with the festivities surrounding Columbus Day, the proclamation in recognition of the many achievements, contributions, and successes of Americans of Italian descent as well as Italians in America. Christopher Columbus was Italian, and many countries celebrate Columbus Day every year to mark his discovery of the New World. But Italian Heritage Month honors more than just Columbus. Over 5.4 million Italians immigrated to the United States between 1820 and 1992. Today there are over 26 million Americans of Italian descent in the United States, making them the fifth largest ethnic group. The country was even named after an Italian, the explorer and geographer Amerigo Vespucci. History of Italian Americans in the U.S. Federico Fellini, the movie director, once said that language is culture and culture is the language, and nowhere is this truer than in Italy. There was a time when speaking Italian was considered a crime, but nowadays many Italian Americans are learning Italian to discover more about their family heritage. Looking for ways to identify, understand, and bond with their familys ethnic background, they are getting in touch with their family heritage by learning their ancestors native language. Most of the Italians who immigrated to the U.S. came from the southern part of Italy, including Sicily. Thats because the pressures encouraging people to immigrate- including poverty and over-population- were greater in the southern part of the country, especially in the latter part of the 19th century. In fact, the Italian government encouraged southern Italians to leave the country and voyage to the U.S. Many ancestors of todays Italian-Americans came due to this policy. Italian-American Heritage Month Celebrations Each year in October, a wide variety of cities and towns with large Italian-American populations host various Italian cultural celebrations in honor of Italian Heritage Month. Many of the celebrations revolve around food, of course. Italians are well-known for their contributions to excellent meals in the U.S. Italian-American heritage organizations often take the opportunity in October to introduce members and others to regional Italian cuisines, which go far beyond pasta. Other events may highlight Italian art, ranging from Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci to modern Italian sculptor Marino Marini and painter and print-maker, Giorgio Morandi. Italian Heritage Month celebrations also provide ample opportunities for learning Italian. For example, some organizations provide language labs for children so that they can discover the beauty of the Italian language. Others offer opportunities for adults to learn enough Italian to get by while traveling to Italy. Finally, many cities- including New York, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco- host Columbus Day or Italian Heritage parades to mark the Columbus Day holiday. The largest parade is the one held in New York City, which involves 35,000 marchers and more than 100 groups.

The Importance of Nonsense Language and Sounds in Carroll's Jabberwocky  Ã‚      "Wn a bby fst ts 2 kmnikt the wrds snd gibberish. " No one knows what the baby is trying to say. The poem, "Jabberwocky," written by Lewis Carroll, uses meaningless speech to either frustrate or amuse the reader. When trying to pronounce the nonsense words in the poem, the sounds of the words come out as gibberish. The sounds are the important element of the poem. Often, people like to hear poets read in languages they cannot understand. A woman leaving a reading by the Polish poet Czeslaw Milosz said she was glad he'd read some of his work in Polish because the language sounded exciting, like horse hooves over cobblestones.    Sometimes a poem can mean little or nothing, yet the stimulus of words alone wins our attention. Some poets can even invent words themselves. Carroll combines two words (portmanteau) into one word to compose those weird sounds and words in the poem. In a unique way the meaningless words combine with recognizable words to create a poem almost comprehensible. The language and sounds allow a reader to reflect back on the concept of how to communicate Carroll's theme of survial of the fittest, and besides the battle between animals, Carroll creates a battle for the reader to understand the language and sounds.    For an animal or reader to survive in Caroll's poem it must kill before being killed, or understand the language before reaching the end. The setting of such survival is the forest, and Caroll's forest is a fantasy land where words are foreign to the reader. "He left it dead, and with its head He went galumphing back," (Carroll, 36) has reference to survival of the fittest. The head becomes the trophy of ... ...tree," (Carroll, 36) describes the actual skill of using a tree for camouflage. The tree is the Dumdum and covers up the hunter's stupidity. Is the Jabberwocky harmless? The forest people could have invented a wise tale about the creature for amusement. What the hunter killed was part imagination and part real; the way Carroll's poem is.    The sounds and nonsense language are important elements of the poem. At the same time, we can use the grammar of the sentence to help us imagine the meanings of the nonsense words. The poem is playful and frustrating at the same time. We might say it "plustrate." Its aim is to put individual’s best efforts for the optimum growth, prosperity and welfare of the country as a whole. It does away with inter-state, inter-linguistic, inter-religious and inter-cultural differences. It promotes a spirit of tolerance and respect for the view-point of other cultural groups. To Kanungo, â€Å"Every country at every time needs national integration but India needs it the most.† India’s passing through a critical period these days. The integrity of India is in danger. Therefore Indians will have to act carefully. In India national integration is needed due to following reasons: Threat of Foreign Aggression National integration is vital for India’s survival especially at a time when the country is under the threat of foreign aggression and internally the people are divided on the basis of castes, religions, regions, communities, languages and Races For the Development of National Character National integration is an essential element for the development of national character. These days there is lack of national character. Corruption is increasing day-by-day. We are sacrificing national interests for the sake of money. National character can be formed only when we have the feeling of national integration. For Success of Democracy India is a democratic country. National integration is an essential pre-requisite for the success of our democracy. It is a basic need for the success of democracy; otherwise, the fissiparous tendencies in the country may lead to serious consequences. For Diversity National unity is essential for any country at any time. There is unity in diversity in India but now unity is in danger. Therefore, national unity is essential in order to maintain the eternal value of unity in diversity. For Peace National integration is essential for keeping peace at national and international level. Modern age is the age of science. It has changed the whole world in a family. Every nation is dependent on one another. Therefore, scientific achievement should be used for constructive work in order to provide peace to humanity. This feeling can develop only when we have the thought of national integration.
